CHRISTIAN DIOR
The tenth birthday of John Galliano at Dior aims an intimacy, as a return
to the roots and to the unleashed imagination of its beginnings. The fashion
designer does not just devote himself to a random exploration of the Japanese
costume, he mixes details from the kimono with volumes of the 50’s
dresses and suits : traditional Japanese socks and a jacket with bustles
rocked far from the hips – a wink to Christian Dior’s most
famous suit. The long-line bra dresses overflow with giant origami foldings.
The embroideries evoke an exuberant Asian vegetation. The kimono imposes
slowness and postures of geisha but still hides a very couture corsettery:
the constraint is maximum. Faces with pearly complexion and coloured eyelids
as birds charm us. A generosity expected more from John Galliano than
from any other.
