Défilés on line Givenchy … at the Paris city hall By Denyse Beaulieu / Pictures : Vincent Lappartient
Herald to Cool Britannia, self-taught designer and first
Black man ever to hang his shop-sign on the mythical Saville Row, Ozwald
Boateng has electrified masculine fashion by injecting strong doses of
bright colours to traditional fabrics. In his second collection for Givenchy,
he draws a slim silhouette, crowned with a Ska porkpie hat: short bomber
jackets, belted trench-coats, Sienna velvet or distressed leather jackets.
His palette veers away from the usual brights, towards a more neutral
scheme, which may be a way of setting his work for Givenchy apart from
his eponymous line. Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoë certainly appreciates
this injection of Britpop chic into one of the most prestigious French
fashion houses: he has asked Boateng to design the uniforms of the city’s
delegation for the 2012 Olympics. |
