Défilés on line Walter Van Beirendonck ...at the Polaris Gallery In the paved courtyard of a mansion in the Marais, young
Afro-crowned men with fluorescent tribal Tiki tattoos, stand stoically
still on white cubes in their wooden clogs. Walter Van Beirendonck’s “Relics
of the Future” presentation, inspired by Captain James Cook’s explorations
of the South Pacific, played on the endurance of both models – who slipped
away to change every half hour - and spectators. Which allowed the latter
ample time to scrutinize stunningly elegant garments: slim jackets and
waistcoats embroidered with colourful animals and insects, bright orange
motorcycle pants and wide-legged striped linen sailor pants in faded pink.
Voile shirts, “straw” fringed capes and black silk amulet necklaces. The
once-outrageous member of the Antwerp Six redefines the limits of men’s
fashion, with an astonishingly light hand. Press : Kuki de Salvertes - Sébastien de Brito
