Femme Eté 2006
Rick Owens
…… Palais de la Découverte
By working most of his fabrics in the bias, Rick Owens
imparts his garments with a spiral movement which brings to mind the ascending
torsions of Art Nouveau. His overwhelmingly desirable jackets borrow their
organic shapes from orchids or marine creatures, with their undulating
collars, “U” shaped curves accenting the hip and rounded asymmetrical
lapels. The Los Angeles designer, who is also the artistic director of
Révillon Furs, treats washed leather, python and chagreen like
fabric; his mineral, subdued palette – black, clay, putty and kaolin
– plays on the transparency of tulles, baring flesh and structure
with a haughty, cerebral sensuality.
