Défilés on line Haider Ackermann ....at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts Denyse Beaulieu From the moment the very first model appears, you think that this is what future nomads would look like in a very sophisticated s.-f. world. Haider Ackermann’s silhouettes echo garments in which function has modelled form across the centuries, fashioned in hyper-technical materials, or fabrics of a Byzantine richness. When he plays on the volumes of a sun-pleated cape or a smocked sleeve top with brocade incrustations, it is with a breathtaking lightness. The Columbian-born, Antwerp-based designer’s research is based on sportswear – the shapes, the ease of movement, the body-consciousness --, perhaps because sportswear is the most contemporary form of clothing. But he goes far beyond its limits. His romantic futurism lays down the basis of a new fashion grammar. Press : Michèle Montagne
