The Israeli-American designer never cared much for “sexiness”: once more, he demonstrates the extreme sensuousness of showing less. In the new Lanvin codes, you can never go overboard. Even the ultra-simple mink coats can be slipped on with a certain “degage” attitude – all of his coats come with a ribbon, which allows them to be worn over the shoulders, like a cape. A series of black suits pulls the collection towards a stricter than usual line: ever since his stint with Yves Saint Laurent, Elbaz has known that a well-cut jacket can also be a welcome protection.
When all is said, it is a simple statement, as simple as the love Alber Elbaz shows for women, a well-reciprocated love… Basing designs on the pleasure of wearing them, modernizing Parisian chic by subtraction, ennobling modest fabrics – here, a grey jersey draped evening dress --, freeing noble materials from their pump and circumstance – a dazzlingly, mouth-watering orange velvet. It all spells one word : respect.
