Does Olivier Theyskens mistrust his youth? His work demonstrates the nearly preternatural maturity of a precocious and thoughtful Proustian child. Long silhouettes sheathed in slim jackets, long skirts flaring out slightly at the hem, bias-cut ruffles for lightness. His silhouettes bring up memories of Lartigues’ 1900 élégantes, just before the Chanel shake-up: restrained, graceful, dreamy in shades of black or white barely touched by the dawn’s first light.
